Barbara McCullough

Barbara H. McCollough, 77, a well-known Bruin resident, passed away Thursday morning at Parker Personal Care in Parker.

Barbara was born in Petrolia on Sept. 30, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Otto Freiters.

Barb was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora and an active member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department, having been active in the ladies auxiliary and as a first responder with Bruin Rescue.

Barb especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, as well as bowling and playing bingo.

She was a 1955 graduate of Fairview Township-Karns City High School. She was married on May 23, 1959, in Chicora, to Allen L. “Smiley” McCollough. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1989.

Surviving are her three children, Sharon K. Appel and her husband, Steven L., of Chicora, Michael A. McCollough and his wife, Barbara G., of Bruin, and Sandra L. Neely and her husband, Matthew J., of Chicora; her five grandchildren, Bryce M. Gilmore and his wife, Megan, of Butler, Kylee A. Bell and her husband, Shayne, of Butler, Bethany M. McCollough of Chicago, Ill., Morgan L. McCollough of Bruin, and Allyn H. Neely of Chicora, and her great-grandson, Zachary A. Gilmore of Butler. Barbara was looking forward to the arrival of two more great-grandchildren in December.

Also surviving are her four brothers, Frederick “Fritz” Freiters and his wife, Donna, of Chicora, Arnold “Chub” Freiters of Karns City, Ludwig “Lew” Freiters of Petrolia, and Charles “Charlie” Freiters and his wife, Jane, of Chicora, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Henry “Heiny” Freiters, and her infant sister, Bertha.

McCollough — The family and friends of Barbara H. McCollough, who passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph J. Boomhower, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners.Members of the Bruin Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
