The Red Coats Are Coming!
ALLEGHENY TWP, Westmoreland County — Freeport Theatre Festival will celebrate its 25th summer season with “Spirit of the Revolution.”
“Spirit,” written and directed by Rennick Steele, is a historical drama inspired by the real life of James Steel, a veteran of the American Revolution whose descendants live in Westmoreland County today.
The play is set during the years of revolutionary fervor: 1771 to 1782. The story begins in Ireland, where Steel, played by Christopher Scott of Avella, leads a rebellion. The lads then flee to the United States.
Steel settles down, buys a farm and marries a local girl. However, news of the Boston Tea Party spreads and Steel joins the Revolutionary cause.
Also starring are Rik Billock, Mike Huston, Jim Knapick, Jacob Riffer, Blake Foster, Tom Abbot, Kody McConnell, Nathan Rall, Sidney Namey, Sharon Riffer and James Neal.
The play opens July 11 and continues at 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through July 27 at the theater on the Steele Farm, 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students.
