A seven member cast is preparing a myriad of characters for the Musical Theatre Guild's summer production, “I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.” The production opens July 11 at the William A. Lehnerd Production Center in Memorial Park.

The actors play different characters throughout the vignettes in this musical about love and relationships.

The show is under the direction of Logan Olszewski. The off-Broadway award winning show has its book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts.

Megan Flannery of Jefferson Township enjoys most playing the role of the wife in the “Marriage Tango” song scene, she said.

“Marlene is an exhausted mom and she and her husband have finally gotten up the energy to make love one night,” said Flannery.

It's a comical scene. “I love playing big characters, and with this show every character is different so I get to use different voices and have separate attitudes for each character,” she said.

Because of the universal theme of love, Flannery believes everyone will be able to relate to some aspect of the show.

One of the characters is just a bit out the 25-year-old's reach as far as having life experience to draw on. “Muriel, is a widow and dealing with loneliness and loss but still wants to have that companionship with someone while she is still here and has something to give to someone,” she said. Flannery reached for the long relationships she's had with others for inspiration.

Brady Patsy of East Brady returns to the local stage for this production. Patsy currently serves as the creative arts administrator for Propel Pitcairn Public Charter School and is resident artist/instructor for the Pittsburgh Musical Theatre.

“The most challenging role I have in this show is a nerdy character in Act 1 who is on a first date and wishes he was a stud so the date would be easier,” said Patsy.

He plays opposite Whitney Angeloni who makes it difficult to stay in character, he said.

“We have yet to successfully make it through the whole song without breaking character because secretly I believe that we both spend the time on stage trying to one up each other to see who will laugh first,” he said.

Jeff Carey of Butler decided on a lark to audition for this musical.

He had been in the show before in New Castle and really enjoyed it, he said.

“It features the ups and downs of relationships. In under two hours, the audience will see the humor and heartbreak, and the anxiety and reward starting with the first date to sharing the golden years,” Carey said.

Also starring in the show are Brad Griffiths, Sarah Hinterlang and Dee Dee Evans.

Because of adult themes, the show is suitable for age 14 and older.
