1 of 2 beaches open at Moraine park
MUDDY CREEK TWP — Aquatic adventurers out for a swim will be out of luck this Fourth of July holiday weekend at Moraine State Park’s Pleasant Valley Beach.
Because of the replacement of sewer lines and a pump station on Lake Arthur’s South Shore, restroom and shower facilities are closed there until that work is done.
Park manager Dustin Drew said these facilities are needed for that swimming area to be open.
However, Lakeview Beach on the park’s North Shore has been open since mid-May and will be open this weekend.
Drew said park officials hoped the project would be done by July 4, but that did not work out. He is optimistic it will be finished by the middle of the month.
“It’s very near completion,” Drew said.
However, the playground, picnic areas and volleyball court in the area are available for use.
Drew said portable toilets are available for use while the restrooms are closed.
The project, which began in April, is part of a two-year, more than $200-million state effort to repair and improve state parks and forests.
The work at Moraine will further reduce stormwater infiltration into the wastewater treatment system at the park, allowing for a better operation and treatment process.
