Blaze stopped before it spreads

MUDDY CREEK TWP — A resident of Lake Arthur Estates said a mobile home fire Monday night could have been worse.

Mary Ann Platt said firefighters prevented a blaze in the adjacent vacant mobile home at 113 Moraine Drive from spreading to other homes and the nearby wooded area.

“There were some pine trees behind the trailer,” Platt said.

She was in bed when she heard a loud noise, followed by another.

“It was like something exploded,” said Platt, who lives next door. “It was really odd.”

She looked out her back door and saw the flames.

In response to Platt’s 911 call at 11:18 p.m., the Portersville, Prospect and Princeton volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.

Fire officials could not be reached for comment.

She said the rear of the home was significantly damaged by the fire.

The last truck cleared the scene at 4 a.m.

Platt said a couple who used to live there have been periodically removing belongings.

She suspects the cause of the fire may be tied to a group of several teenagers roaming the park in the middle of the night.

No one at the park office could be reached for comment.

The last fire at Lake Arthur Estates occurred May 5 when two mobile homes, one of which was vacant, ignited.

The vacant trailer, where that fire started, was destroyed while the occupied one was badly damaged.
