PUC asks court to stop ride-share

PITTSBURGH — Attorneys for the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission have asked a panel of judges to force two ride-share companies to stop operating in Pittsburgh.

The PUC’s enforcement arm argued Thursday that Lyft and Uber are violating state rules that govern paid transportation services.

Uber, Lyft and other ride-share companies use smart phone apps to dispatch drivers who use their own personal vehicles.

PUC enforcement officer Charles Bowser testified in Pittsburgh that allowing the services to operate without state oversight is a “recipe for disaster.”
