5 people charged with using checks belonging to woman

Butler Township police file case

BUTLER TOWNSHIP — A handful of people stand accused of using checks that belonged to a township woman.

According to court records, the victim called police on July 17, 2013, after Huntington Bank contacted her and noted a check signature was not her regular signature.

According to court records, the bank teller did not cash the check, which was made out for $250, and identified the woman attempting to cash it as 30-year-old Dezeray Angerett of Butler.

Angerett told police that she allegedly got the check from a friend, Jesse Markovitz of Butler.

Court records say Markovitz also gave the victim’s checks to two other people who cashed them for $250 each. Those people are Amanda Ristity, 32, of Butler and Melanie Kaplin, 25, of Slippery Rock.

Another person, Keith Nebel, 41, of Butler, reportedly cashed a check belonging to the same victim from a different bank account for $255, according to court records.

None of these people had the victim’s permission to use her checks.

Markovitz of 347 E. Patterson Ave. is charged with forgery and three counts of receiving stolen property.

Angerett of 107 Westview Drive is charged with three counts of conspiracy, two counts of forgery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Kaplin of 195 Middle Road; Ristity of 520 Freeport Road, Butler, and Nebel of 117 E. North St. are charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

Although the allegations all occurred in July 2013, the charges were filed Tuesday by Butler Township Police. Preliminary hearings will be set later for each defendant in the Butler Township office of District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
