Rt. 38 reopened this morning after flooding

Route 38 was reopened this morning in both directions from the Route 68 ramp in Summit Township to West Sunbury Road in Oakland Township after being closed Wednesday because of flooding.

The state Department of Transportation closed that section of the road after an overnight rainstorm that occurred from Tuesday into early Wednesday.

“It’s flooded in multiple locations,” said Mike Mattis, an assistant manager with PennDOT in Butler County, on Wednesday “Water is still coming up along the creek.”

Mattis said he received his first report of flooding about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The route follows the Connoquenessing Creek and intersects with some of its tributaries.

It’s not the first time the road has flooded.

“Anytime there is a big storm, there is some flooding along the road,” he said. “It runs so close to the creek.”
