James A. 'Jim' Stoops
James A. “Jim” Stoops, 87, of Harrisville, passed away early Thursday morning at his residence.
Born May 8, 1927, in Boyers, he was the son of the late Albert C. and Nellie V. Dickey Stoops.
He was a graduate of Grove City High School.
Jim worked many years at Cooper Energy Services in Grove City. He worked on the erection floor and tool room and retired in 1989.
He was a member of Harrisville United Methodist Church.
Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates and NASCAR fan.
He was a member of Harrisville American Legion Post 852, Harrisville Dear Hunters Association, Harrisville Archery Club, Grove City Archery Club, Cooper-Bessmer Bowling League and Pearson Racing Team.
On Dec. 6, 1947, he married the former Lois A. Campbell and she preceded him in death Sept. 19, 2009.
Surviving are two sons, J. David Stoops of Harrisville, and Gary L. Stoops and his wife, Mary, of Grove City; three brothers, Donald L. Stoops and his wife, Doris, of Florida, David L. Stoops and his wife, Kathleen, of Harrisville, and Francis E. Stoops of Boyers; his sister Jean Betros and her husband, Bill, of Boyers; two grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Main St., Harrisville, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert McCreight, pastor of North Liberty Presbyterian Church, officiating.
