CRANBERRY TWP — Township residents again are gearing up to celebrate Community Days starting July 10.
This year’s event in the township’s Community Park will include many mainstays that have made the event popular. There will be fireworks, a carnival, car cruise, music and an assortment of other attractions.
The event is usually three days long, although participants this year have a chance to partake in the Westinghouse-Fire Company golf outing and the Martinis with Monet art show on July 9. The event closes on July 12.
The entire event is free, although there is a $5 suggested donation for parking. The money will be collected only during peak hours during the day and funds will benefit local nonprofit organizations.
Bruce Mazzoni, supervisor chairman and a Community Days organizer, said the “response has been very good” from vendors looking to participate.
He said there will be new additions this year including a health fair sponsored by UPMC that will feature a variety of doctors on hand to talk with participants.
There are plenty of opportunities for fun, Mazzoni said, including demonstrations by a chain saw artist, open-air painting and an eclectic mix of musical acts performing in the park.
The event will give the Cranberry Township Community Chest the opportunity to announce its 2015 Community Project of the Year.
“The main reason people should come out is to give them a chance to get to know our nonprofit and civic groups,” Mazzoni said. “Those groups raise a lot of money for the community, and every dollar goes back to the community.”
Mazzoni said there will be 240 vendor booths representing a mix of businesses, food suppliers, nonprofits, government groups and other service organizations.
A carnival complete with dozens of rides will be constructed in the park, while participants will have a chance to buy a one-price, all-you-can-ride ticket on both Thursday and Friday of the event.
The popular car cruise will also return this year and will run from 4 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, the celebration’s first full day of events.
Township Manager Jerry Andree said “We’re looking forward to a great community celebration and everyone is welcome.”
The event will conclude with a fireworks show on Saturday, July 12.
