Mary E. Smith
Mary E. Smith, 88, of McDonald, formerly of Herman and Hilliards, passed away Friday at her home.
Born on July 26, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Felix J. Obringer and Elizabeth M. (Sommer) Obringer.
Mary was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman where she sang in the choir, and St. Alphonsus Church in Murrinsville. She was a member of the Happy Hunters Club, the Herman Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Boyers and Butler, and was formerly a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s and the Butler Memorial Hospital. She was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
Mary enjoyed gardening, camping, rafting, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She was also a talented seamstress, skilled in sewing and crocheting.
Surviving are six sons, Regis L. (Deborah) Smith of Butler, Guy R. (Kathryn) Smith of Butler, Rory E. (Deborah) Smith of Pittsburgh, Brian G. Smith of Butler, Paul F. (Michelle) Smith of Butler, and Larry W. Smith of Butler; three daughters, Marge (Leo) Geibel of Hilliards, Debra (James) King of Butler, and Betty Gregor of Butler; two sisters, Rosine Michel of Herman and Barbara Buck of McDonald; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius C. “Nean” Smith, who died on March 25, 1987; daughter, Patricia; brother, Richard Obringer, and two grandchildren, Shyann Smith and Seth Smith.
Smith— The friends of Mary E. Smith, who passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman.
