'Give My Regards'
Sing Hosanna! is making way for Broadway as the group's youth prepare their summer offering “Give My Regards to Broadway,” featuring the music of George M. Cohan.
A fun storyline and the toe-tapping music of Cohan are combined in this upbeat show that opens June 21 at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.
Christian Cendrowski of Clinton Township is playing the role of Dick, the director.
“He is that kind of person that is kissing up to people if he wants something but is also like a father figure type,” Christian said.
The ninth-grade Knoch High School student said he is excited about bringing the “funny” to the show.
“Dick the director is trying to get his show off of the ground, while Mary, an actress, is trying to get a start in her acting career,” he said, noting that the antics can make for an enjoyable show.
The young actress Mary Collins is being played by Claire Lindsey, a seventh grader at Knoch Middle School.
“Mary is an amateur actress from a small town who is looking for a break,” said Claire, who said she has a lot in common with Mary as she herself just got her first lead role.
With all of the end of the school year activity, one of the biggest challenges for Claire has been finding the time to memorize the choreography which at times can be complicated.
“I did extensive research via the Internet to get information about the role,” she said of her preparation.
Anna Fabrizzi, an eighth-grade student at St. Luke Lutheran School, is portraying Betty.
“She is a ditsy show girl and also very motherly to her niece, Millie,” she said. “I think the people around me bring out the best in me because they make me feel more comfortable in my role,” said Anna, who tried out for the show with a friend.
She said she is enjoying her solo but can find it challenging at times.
A host of other colorful characters are in the mix to make Cohan's music come alive.
Ralph Christy Jr. is directing the production.
