This marble machine by David Hilliard is just one of the examples from the “Western Pennsylvania Turned Wood” exhibit opening with a reception Monday at The Art Center.
Center begins exhibit Monday

“Western Pennsylvania Turned Wood” opens Monday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Art Center.

The artwork comes mostly from four turning clubs: Butler Area Woodturners, Turners Anonymous (Pittsburgh), Indico Woodturners (Indiana) and Ladies Who Wood (Sarver). Some group members are new, only turning for the last year, and some have been turning wood for years.

This is the first show organized by the Butler Area Woodturners, formed four years ago, in conjunction with the Associated Artists of Butler County.

The show, which continues through July 11, will display the craftsmanship of individuals who use a lathe and turn wood into art.

Also at The Art Center, the Members’ Gallery is showing the works of Patricia Young through June 28 and the works of Sally Rodgers from July 2 to Aug. 2.

The Underground Gallery at The Art Center is starting its summer season with art and music at 6 p.m. Friday. Admission is $5.

Sky Morrison, 20, a self-taught artist from Slippery Rock, will be displaying a collection of alternative style artwork, clothing and dolls.

Band nights also are planned for July 18, Aug. 1 and Sept. 5.

For information, visit www.butlerartcenter.org.

Hours for The Art Center, 344 S. Main St., are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
