HARRISBURG — A new poll shows Democratic nominee Tom Wolf leading Republican incumbent Tom Corbett by a formidable 20 points in Pennsylvania's gubernatorial campaign.

The survey of 1,308 Pennsylvania voters released Wednesday by Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University shows Wolf backed by 53 percent and Corbett with 33 percent. Eleven percent were undecided.

The margin is almost identical to Wolf's 52-to-33 percent advantage over Corbett in a hypothetical matchup by Quinnipiac in February. That was months before Wolf won the Democratic nomination with 58 percent of the vote in a four-way primary.

The poll contained little good news for Corbett. Only 29 percent of the respondents say they view him favorably, contrasted with 46 percent who say that about Wolf.

The margin of error for the telephone poll was plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

Clinton, Cosby at service for Katz

PHILADELPHIA — Former President Bill Clinton were among a group of dignitaries slated to speak at a memorial service this morning at Temple University for philanthropist and Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner Lewis Katz.

Also on the list of 15 speakers for the service are Gov. Tom Corbett, former Gov. Ed Rendell, comedian Bill Cosby, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and Inquirer editor Bill Marimow.

Katz was among seven people killed when his private jet crashed during takeoff in Bedford, Massachusetts. An investigation is underway.

Katz and three friends were attending an education fundraiser at the home of historian Doris Kearns Goodwin and her husband, Richard Goodwin, an adviser to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.

PITTSBURGH — A man has pleaded no contest to a weapons charge involving the gun later used to kill a western Pennsylvania police officer three years ago.Fifty-four-year-old James Ameris III of Lower Burrell entered the plea Tuesday in Westmoreland County Court and also pleaded no contest to weapons and witness intimidation charges in another case.Ameris was charged with having at one time possessed the gun that fugitive Charles Post later used to kill Lower Burrell police officer Derek Kotecki in a restaurant parking lot in October 2011. Post died during a gun battle with police.

GETTYSBURG — The planned auction of a skull reportedly that of a Civil War soldier found at Gettysburg has been cancelled following protests, and officials say the remains have now been donated for burial with honors.Estate Auction Co. of Hershey had listed the skull for sale at auction Tuesday in Hagerstown, Maryland. That drew protests from the U.S. Park Service in Gettysburg and many other people.Gettysburg National Military Park and the nonprofit Gettysburg Foundation announced Tuesday that the remains had been donated by the auction company. After authentication, they are to be buried at the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg with full military honors.
