Egon Friedrich “Opa” Straub, 79, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away at 11:24 p.m. Thursday in Butler.

He was born April 20, 1935, in Muehlacker, Germany, to the late Erich Straub and Rosa (Rothfritz) Straub.

Egon worked as a carpenter in Philadelphia, where he belonged to the Carpenter Union Local 8. Egon enjoyed playing and watching soccer.

Egon is survived by his wife, Erna Straub, who he married on Aug. 24, 1957; one son, Ralf E. Straub of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Corina (Straub) Diehl of Butler; two grandchildren, Matthew Straub Diehl and Rachel Straub Diehl; and two sisters, Dora Ripp of Ivyland, Pa., and Meta Pohle of Ivyland, Pa.
