Man, 39, allegedly molests 12-year-old
CENTER TWP — A Westmoreland County man is accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl last year at a township home.
State police Wednesday charged Thomas J. Burns Jr., 39, of Arnold on a list of charges, including two felonies.
The girl in March reported the alleged abuse to a Butler County Children and Youth Services caseworker. She claimed Burns groped her on two separate occasions last summer, court documents said.
Police on March 12 confronted the defendant with the child’s allegations during an interview at the barracks. He denied wrongdoing.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Thursday arraigned Burns on two felony counts of corruption of minors. He also is charged with five misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.
His preliminary hearing is set for June 10 at Stoughton’s office in Chicora. Bail in the case is $50,000.
Burns has been in the Butler County Prison since May 22 stemming from his arrest for a probation violation.
Court records showed the defendant has an extensive criminal record in four counties — Butler, Beaver, Allegheny and Westmoreland.
His most recent conviction in 2006 was for robbery in Allegheny County. He was sentenced in that case to 1 to 2 years in jail.
