Leonabelle Ray

Leonabelle V. Ray, 85, of Butler passed away peacefully Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Dec. 28, 1928, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Walter E. and Bertha Hinton.

A stay-at-home mother, Leonabelle enjoyed playing bingo, sewing quilts and crocheting afghans.

In the past, she would often help her late husband with woodworking, contributing to numerous bird houses, decorative windmills, and other assorted projects.

Leonabelle was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary and Harry Meier of Grove City; her four sons, Walter Ray of Superior, Wyo., Brian and Jessie Ray of Butler, Herb Ray and his fiancee, Debbie Watson, of Butler, and Larry and Patricia Ray of East Brady; her eight grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Warren, and her two brothers, Walter and Jack Hinton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam E. Ray, who she married in July 1947; her great-grandson, Braden James Meier; her sister, Elsie Good; and her brothers, Lorraine and Robert Hinton.

Ray — A private viewing for Leonabelle V. Ray, who passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, will be private for her family.Contributions may be submitted in Leonabelle's memory to the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001, or to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.Arrangements are entrusted to the Young Funeral Home, Butler.
