David L. Summerville

David Summerville

David L. Summerville, 69, of Fleetwood passed away Saturday at Stone Ridge Towne Center in Myerstown.

Born in Butler, he was the son of the late William W. and Loretta M. (Green) Summerville.

He was the loving and dedicated husband of Sandra L. (Bear) Summerville. They were married on Nov. 25, 1967, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Harrisburg.

Dave was a 1962 graduate of Butler Senior High School.

He was member of West Reading Crime Watch and Fleetwood Neighborhood Watch.

He retired from CVS, formerly Revco/White Cross, in 2009, after 34 years as a retail manager. He continued to work part-time at various CVS locations following his retirement until 2011, when he became ill. He also was employed much earlier in his life by the U.S. Post Office in Harrisburg.

Dave attended the Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reading.

He enjoyed golfing with his grandsons and especially attending golf tournaments with his friends from CVS.

He was a proud and loving grandfather who enjoyed taking his grandsons on many trips as they were growing up and attending their school activities and sporting events. He especially loved going on rollercoasters with them.

Being from the Pittsburgh area, he was an avid fan of the Pirates and Steelers.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 46 years, are his daughters and sons-in-law, who he treasured and loved unconditionally, Michelle L., wife of Donald W. Auchenbach of Fleetwood, and Rene' L., wife of Michael J. Schlegel of Wernersville. He also is survived by his two grandsons, who he loved with all his heart, Christopher M. Auchenbach of Fleetwood, and Joseph P. Auchenbach, husband of Sarah (Plank) of Fleetwood, and the apple of his eye, his great-grandson, Nicholas Scott, who brought him so much love and laughter. Dave just adored this little guy and introduced him to his love of trains! He was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new great-grandchild. Also surviving are his brother, Lawrence E. and his wife, Cyndy Summerville, of Henderson, Nev.; his sister, Jean M., wife of Edward Rodemoyer of Butler, and his many nieces and nephews.
