Scout Troop 360 celebrates 50 years

harmony — Boy Scout Troop 360 will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday (May 17) at the Lancaster Township Community Center, 113 Kings Alley, Harmony.

Ross Cummings, committee chairman for Troop 360, said the anniversary party is a way to honor the five leaders the troop has had since its inception in May 1964 and its sponsoring organization, the Lancaster Township Friends of Scouting.

All scouts and their families are invited to attend, with special recognition going to the troop’s Eagle Scouts, Cummings said.

“There’s a total of 58 Eagle Scouts that the troop has had over the course of its existence, and we sent out invitations all over the country,” Cummings said. “Hopefully a good many will attend.”

Troop 360 also will pay tribute to its longest-serving leader, Carl Miller.

Miller said he stepped in as the troop’s second scoutmaster and led the group for 40 years, staying involved even after his “retirement.”

The event also includes a discussion of troop history and recognition of community service.
