Barbara Hiles

Barbara R. Hiles, 82, of Chicora passed away Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice of Cabot with her family by her side.

She was born on May 19, 1931, in Warren, the daughter of Norman H. Rieder Sr. and Elzora Marie (Buzzard) Rieder.

Barb was a lifetime resident of the area, growing up in Bruin and later moving to Chicora. She was a member of the Chicora United Methodist Church. After graduating from Bruin High School, she attended the Butler Business School and graduated in 1950.

She was employed as an executive assistant to the personnel manager for Witco (Sonneborn) for 30 years until her retirement in 1997.

While Barb was an avid golfer, she also enjoyed bowling and exercising with her Silver Sneakers friends. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters who were the pride of her life.

Barb will be best remembered for her kind and generous heart and selfless character, always taking care of everyone else before herself.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Linda L. Hiles of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Dixie L. Laidlaw of Saxonburg; her granddaughters, Whitney and Brooke Laidlaw; and her sister, Dixie L. Cooper and her husband, Richard, of Harrisburg.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Butch, Jim and Bud Rieder.

Hiles — Relatives and friends of Barbara R. Hiles, who passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, may visit from noon until the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 102 S. Argyle St., Petrolia, with Pastor Ali Fisher officiating.
