Leila Jane Duncan, 88, of Slippery Rock, Worth Township, Butler County, passed away at VNA Hospice in Butler at 10:33 a.m. Wednesday.

She was born on March 31, 1926, to Frank Shields and Nina Humphrey Shields.

She married Alfred Brenneman Duncan on Jan. 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1993.

She graduated from Slippery Rock High School. She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and was an active member of the Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township, Butler County.

Survivors include her three sons, Larry A. Duncan and his wife, Janet, of Slippery Rock, George E. Duncan and his wife, Diana, of Waynesboro, Va., and Mark A. Duncan and his wife, Sally, of Slippery Rock; her daughter, Janyce E. Jones Suppers and her husband, George, of Leechburg; her 11 grandchildren, Jenna Cawthorne, Heather Delity, Amanda Kirby, Miranda Zaborowski, Jody Smith, Jacque Little, Gregory Jones, Douglas Jones, Curtis Jones, Mitchell Ferry and Stephanie Ulicni; her two step-grandchildren, Liz Yuen and George Suppers III; her 33 great-grandchildren; and her three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her six brothers, William Ernest, James Russell, Willard Arthur, Henry Clair, John Roy and Frederick Humphrey Shields, and her sister, Aline Elizabeth Shields Wolfe.

Duncan — Funeral services for Leila Jane Duncan, who passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, will be at the Zion Baptist Church, 154 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of Zion Baptist Church, presiding.Her family will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.Memorial contributions may be given to VNA Hospice, 115 Technology Dr. Butler, PA 16001.
