PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County health authorities say a person with measles might have recently spread the virus to others in the Pittsburgh area.

Officials say Thursday that people who may have been in contact with the Allegheny County resident at work or elsewhere are being notified. They also say others may have been exposed on April 30 in New Kensington, at an Indiana Township restaurant, and in Harmar Township.

Most people are not at risk because they have been vaccinated, but the health department says people whose immune systems are compromised should call their primary care physician if they have symptoms such as a runny nose, watery eyes, or cough and a high fever.

Nationally about 189 people had measles last year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

READING — An eastern Pennsylvania man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges that he attacked his parents with a knife after an argument over failing grades.Robert Hausch, 21, of Morgantown entered the plea Thursday in Berks County Court.Prosecutors said Hausch was arrested early Dec. 30 after investigators said he stabbed his mother and father in the neck with a seven-inch military knife as they slept. A few hours earlier, they said, he had argued with his mother over his having received five failing grades in college.Assistant Public Defender Holly Feeney said a psychiatric evaluation had concluded that Hausch was insane at the time and needed to be hospitalized. Assistant District Attorney Amy Rothermel agreed with the disposition.
