Harry S. Lindey Jr., 86, of Cabot, formerly of Slippery Rock, West Liberty Borough, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospice, Marwood Road, Cabot, on Thursday.

He was born in Brady Township on May 3, 1927, to Harry Sylvester Lindey Sr. and Myrtle Henrietta Long Lindey.

He married Millicent B. Blair on Sept. 24, 1953. He was raised on his family's farm in Brady Township. He attended Barley School in Brady Township, which was a one room school just down the road from the farm during his early years of school through the eighth grade. He attended high school at Slippery Rock High School and graduated as class valedictorian in 1944.

He served as sergeant, first class in the National Guard of Pennsylvania and in Company D, 112th Infantry in Germany during the Korean War.

He worked as a self-employed automobile mechanic and was the owner of Lindey Garage just outside of West Liberty. He was in partnership with his brothers in Harry S. Lindey Sons who raised beef cattle and laying hens on the farm. He worked for more than 45 years specializing in state inspection and transmission repair and provided maintenance for the family's farm equipment and vehicles.

He was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock and served as a Sunday school teacher and elder on the church session. He was a former councilman in West Liberty Borough. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved living on the farm in the country and going on family outings and boating on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Millicent Blair Lindey of Cabot; three daughters, Gail L. Clelland (David) of Richmond, Va., Paula L. Reed (Greg) of Saxonburg and Suzanne B. Olson (Mark) of Scotia, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert W. Lindey (Shirley) of Slippery Rock and Paul W. Lindey (Ruby) of Slippery Rock; and two granddaughters, Michelle C. Ford (Chris) of Mechanicsville, Va., and Melinda A. Clelland of Richmond, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Richard “Dick” Lindey; and one infant sister.

LINDEY — The family of Harry S. Lindey Jr., who died Thursday, April 3, 2014, will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas E. Turner, interim pastor of Highland Presbyterian Church, presiding.Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice.
