Don Orwald

NEW YORK — Former Butler resident and award-winning playwright Don Orwald has a one-act play premiering April 26 and 27, as part of a slate of scripts in the Short Play Lab at the Roy Arias Studios, 300 W. 45th St.

The two-day festival features more than a dozen 10-minute plays.

Orwald's latest tale “Go Fish” features a fictional literary agent who rejects the classic novels of Herman Melville and Mark Twain and gives crazy critiques which she says will improve the plots leading to greater sales.

“Go Fish” will be staged between 7 and 9 p.m. April 26 and 2 and 4 p.m. April 27. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Orwald has also written “The Dying of the Light” and “The Man in the Window: The Building of the Brooklyn Bridge.”

WORTHINGTON — The Armstrong Community Theater will present a dinner theater production of “The Groom Has Cold Feet” at 7 p.m. April 25 and 26 and at 1 p.m. April 27 at the Worthington Civic Center, 214 E. Main St., building B.This comedy takes place in the days of the Old West.Tickets are $20, which includes a buffet style meal of either fried chicken or pulled pork, and must be bought in advance.For information, call 724-297-3228.

FRANKLIN — Venango County Historical Society has planned two events to honor Major General Alexander Hays of Franklin, who graduated from West Point, served in the Mexican War and the Civil War and worked in the iron business in Pittsburgh.The first event will be the premiere of a DVD about Hays shown at 7 p.m. May 1 at First United Methodist Church, 1100 Liberty St.The second event will be the dedication of a historical marker for Hays on May 5, the 150th anniversary of his death, at 1:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Buffalo Street.For more information, call 814-437-2275.
