Ready to fly Phipps to reopen Butterfly Forest
Monarch butterfly
PITTSBURGH — Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will add motion, beauty and color to a popular garden exhibit with the seasonal reopening of its Butterfly Forest on April 26.
This annual exhibit offers encounters with live monarchs, zebra longwings and more as they emerge from their chrysalides and take flight among the blooms in the public garden’s Stove Room.
With about 20,000 species on Earth and roughly 575 in the U.S., according to the North American Butterfly Association, butterflies are important pollinators that help to ensure the proliferation of life-supporting plants.
The Butterfly Forest runs through Sept. 1.
