Fire hits factory in Zelienople
ZELIENOPLE — A plastic company’s opening of a new building didn’t go well.
It burned down.
Fire officials believe faulty wiring to a furnace caused the fire shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday at Kenson Plastics at 620 W. Beaver St.
“They had just finished hooking things up this week,” said Chief Rob Reeb of the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department, referring to the owners. “(Thursday) was the first day of operation.”
Luckily for the Warrendale-based company, the property is across the from the fire station.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and saved the company’s main building next to the 15-by15-foot cement block building that was destroyed.
The two buildings are connected to allow for a forklift access, Reeb said.
The owners, brothers Christopher and David O’Leary, around Christmas bought the main building from Leopold Plastics, borough officials said.
Neither O’Leary brother be reached for comment this morning.
According to the company’s web site, Kenson “specializes in the custom design and production of precision pressure-formed plastic components, enclosures and other specialty parts mainly for the medical and electronics industries.”
