William W. Hazlett

William Hazlett

William W. Hazlett, 69, of Buffalo Township passed away Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1945, in Natrona Heights. He was the son of the late Eugene and Garnet (Bargerstock) Hazlett.

William graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1963. After graduating from high school, he served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.

After returning from the service, he worked at Verizon in New Kensington until his retirement in 2001.

William was a member of the Tarentum Eagles Club. He also belonged to many sportsmen's clubs, including Frazer, Tarentum, Saxonburg and Valley Gun Club in Elysburg, Pa. He shot weekly, both in the Valley Trap League and Butler County Trap League, for many years.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He spent many weekends hunting in the mountains for turkey and deer.

His greatest passion in life was trapshooting. He won numerous championships and titles from various states from 1978 to 2013. His greatest accomplishment was winning the Grand American Handicap Championship in 1980, which to a trap shooter is equivalent to the Super Bowl. One of his dreams was to win the Pennsylvania State Doubles Championship, which he accomplished in 2012.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Susan (Kladny) Hazlett, and his two daughters, Bonnie (Sean) Taylor of Chesapeake, Va., and Beth (Scott) Hanz of Buffalo Township. He also leaves behind his nine grandchildren, Kyle, Alyssa, Paige, Kevin and Tiffany Taylor of Chesapeake, Va., Amanda Taylor Hocken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Allison, Brittany and Michael Hanz. Also surviving are his sister, Florence MacSween, and his brother, Eugene Hazlett, both of Natrona Heights, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Hazlett, in 2011.

Hazlett — Visitation for William W. Hazlett, who passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Duster Funeral Home, 347 E. 10th Avenue, Tarentum.A blessing service also will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev.
