Harold James 'Tom' Applebee

Harold James “Tom” Applebee, 71, of Anderson, S.C., passed away Feb. 21 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, S.C.

He was born on March 21, 1942, in Grove City. His father, William Applebee, passed away when Tom was 6 years old. Tom was raised by his stepfather and mother, the late Horace and Effie Coast Grossman.

He was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and he retired from the U.S. Navy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War.

He was retired from Tri-County Technical College in Pendelton, S.C., where he worked as a teacher.

Mr. Applebee was a member of Divver Masonic Lodge 349, AMF in Anderson, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Cwyner Applebee of Anderson; his two daughters, Railyn Hall of Anderson and Jacquelyn Stein of Butler; and his grandsons. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Dug Grossman of Grove City, John and Ken Grossman of Slippery Rock, Joe Grossman of Mercer and Marvin Grossman of Prospect; his sisters, Bonnie Wallace of Slippery Rock, Mary Spence of Butler and Dale Miller of Anderson, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Applebee — Graveside services for Harold James “Tom” Applebee, who passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, were Friday, Feb. 28, at the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, S.C., with the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard providing military honors.
