Gerard H. Lavoie, 91, of Manheim, Pa., formerly of Hampton, Conn., died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday.

Born in Magog, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Henry and Rose Charboneau Lavoie.

Gerard was the loving husband of Yvette S. Duchesneau Lavoie, who died in June of 2006.

For many years, he worked in quality assurance for Pratt-Whittney Aircraft in Hartford, Conn. Previously he was employed for General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Conn.

Gerard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was an active and faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Hampton, where he served as lector, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

Gerard graduated from Yale University with a bachelor of science degree in political science. His interests included classical music, vegetable gardening, and reading. Gerard was a great father. His lifelong passion was his family and he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughter, Judith, the wife of John Osborn of Manheim; one son, Thomas G., the husband of Carol Mackinnon Lavoie of Butler; his daughter, Janet, the wife of Daniel Schell of Lititz; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was one sister, Jeanette Bonin.

LAVOIE — Relatives and friends of Gerard H. Lavoie, who died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, Pa., at 3 p.m. Sunday.There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
