Rock scores sweep over Vulcans again

The Slippery Rock University baseball team tallied a sweep of rival California (Pa.) for the second time in four days.

After defeating the Vulcans twice in Washington County on Friday, The Rock earned wins of 5-3 and 8-7 at Critchfield Park Monday afternoon.

Kyle Schneider sparked the win in the first game, striking out six and walking one in a complete-game victory. He allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits.

SRU left fielder Adam Urbania smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to put The Rock up 2-1. It was a lead the Green and White would not surrender.

Shortstop Will Kengor doubled, scored twice and drove in a run to go with a pair of stolen bases for SRU.

The second game saw The Rock explode for six runs in the second inning. The outburst included a two-run single from Jake Nogalo and a run-scoring double from Alex Bell.

Nogalo finished with two singles, two runs scored and two RBI while Bell tallied a single, double, run scored and one RBI.

SRU reliever John Kovalik got the win, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout and no walks.

Jon Anderson (5) and Preston Falascino (.1) worked the first 5.1 innings for The Rock (16-8, 5-3).
