After nearly 60 years, Serventi’s Restaurant on South Chestnut Street closed for the final time Saturday.

The owners of the Italian restaurant are finalizing the sale of the business to Greg Birch of Butler.

Birch plans to open a barbecue style restaurant there. The closing of the sale is pending the transfer of the restaurant’s liquor license.

Serventi’s will continue to take takeout orders on items like sauces, soups, dressings, meatballs, lasagna, and chicken marsala through April 9.

Serventi’s has been at the location since 1955.

Birch said the two sides have been working on the sale for a year, and the deal could be finalized in the next couple weeks.
