Charles R. “Chuck” Vasey Jr., 87, of St. Petersburg, Clarion County, a longtime St. Petersburg businessman, went to Heaven to be with his family and friends on Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot following an illness.

Born on Sept. 27, 1926, in St. Petersburg, Clarion County, Chuck was the son of C. Ralph and Margaret Linnon Vasey.

Chuck was a 1944 graduate of St. Petersburg Richland High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having earned the rank of TSgt. Chuck was stationed in the Philippines during World War II.

When the war ended, Chuck returned to the family business, Vasey's Garage in St. Petersburg, working with his father. After his father's passing, Chuck continued to operate the family business for many years with inspections, gasoline and used car sales.

Chuck married the former Ruth E. Milliren at the Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, Va., on Feb. 28, 1959. The couple would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary next week.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, where he served on church council. He was a member of the Foxburg American Legion Miller-Rankin Post 636 and the Clarion VFW Post 2145. Chuck was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed talking and reminiscing about antique cars.

In addition to his wife, Ruth E. Vasey, Chuck is survived by two nieces, one nephew, a number of cousins, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by two sisters and a nephew.

VASEY — A funeral service for Charles R. “Chuck” Vasey Jr., who died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Petersburg, with the Rev. Deborah K. Jacobson, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Petersburg Cemetery, Clarion County.Arrangements are handled by the HILE FUNERAL HOME OF ST.
