HARRISBURG — A new legislative study says merging Pennsylvania's Fish and Boat Commission with the Game Commission could save nearly $5 million annually in personnel costs.
The Legislative Budget and Finance Committee report released Wednesday said the two agencies could cut about 52 jobs, but it says such a change could incur other costs, such as the need for a new logo, uniforms, website and vehicle identification.
Pennsylvania is the only state that divides management of fish and wildlife resources into two agencies.
HATBORO — A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month for a suburban Philadelphia man accused of sending a romantic rival a birthday card laced with the deadly poison ricin.Authorities in Bucks County said 19-year-old Nicholas Helman was arrested at his Hatboro home Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, risking a catastrophe and other counts.Authorities said ingredients for making ricin were recovered from Helman last week and tests confirmed the presence of the deadly chemical on the card.
