Stephen Stanley 'Pecka' Jurysta

Stephen Stanley “Pecka” Jurysta, 80, of Butler passed away at 7:25 p.m. Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on June 5, 1933, in Lyndora to the late Carl Jurysta and Nellie (Sebock) Jurysta.

Mr. Jurysta was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church. He worked at Pullman Standard as a welder until 1980.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and he was a Merchant seaman during 1970s.

Mr. Jurysta was a former member of the Slovak Club and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora. He enjoyed being with his family and friends. Mr. Jurysta had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, traveling and country western music.

Mr. Jurysta is survived by his son, Robert Jurysta and his wife, Charlene, and their children, Steven, Amanda and Eric, all of Prospect; his daughter, Mary Alice Layton of Boardman, Ohio; his two stepdaughters, Charlotte Bonner of Butler and Cathi Brys-Smith of Sugarland, Texas; his two step-grandchildren; and his step-great-grandchild.

His sister, Rose Ann Jurysta Slupe of Lyndora, and his five brothers, Jerome Jurysta and his wife, Mayann, Harold Jurysta and his wife, Patricia, Ronald Jurysta and his wife, Barbara, Edward Jurysta and his wife, Harriet, and Larry Jurysta and his fiance, Donna Baccanti, all of Butler, also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Brodbeck) Jurysta, who he married on Sept. 22, 1973, and who passed away on Aug. 21, 2009, and his two brothers.
