William W. McCloskey

William McCloskey

William W. McCloskey, 77, of Butler passed away at 10:44 a.m. Sunday at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous two-year battle with renal cancer.

Born in Butler on Feb. 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Clark and Ann (Maciboba) McCloskey.

He attended Butler High School and also took electrical courses at Butler County Community College.

He served in the U.S. Navy, the Pennsylvania National Guard, and retired from the Air Force after 24 years of military service.

He worked at Pullman Standard as a crane operator and electrician until it closed. He retired from Joy Mining Machinery in Cranberry Township as a truck driver in 1999. After his retirement, he worked as an electrician just for something to do.

He loved spending time with his family, especially picnics in the summer, golf, the Steelers, and working in his yard. He also enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene (Bures) Kradel McCloskey, who he married on Sept. 8, 1980; his two daughters, Cindy McCloskey of Apopka, Fla., and Nicole (Jamie) McQueen of Clayton, N.C.; his three stepdaughters, Kimberly Kradel of Berkeley, Calif., Amy (Terry) Hawk of Cabot and Jody Semmelroth of Butler; his grandchildren, Jerred Fraser of Pittsburgh, Ashley and Erika McCloskey of Butler, Gage and Taylor McQueen of Clayton, N.C., Kiera McCloskey of Apopka, Fla., Michelle Ball of Chicora, Brittany (Will) Charmley, Erik Winters, Olivia and Emily Semmelroth of Butler, and Tyler Tebay of Cabot, and his four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara Ann; his two brothers, Eugene and Edward McCloskey,; his nephew, Eugene McCloskey, his two daughters, Sharon McCloskey and Vicki Adams, his two sons, Bill and Kevin McCloskey; his stepdaughter, Judy Christy, and his grandson, Michael Ball.

The family would like to thank the staff at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler Dialysis Center, Butler Ambulance Service and Wheelchair Van, Butler Cancer Center, Dr. Michael Fiorina, and Medi-Home Health Care. Especially Junell, Crystal, and Missy. Everyone was so kind as Bill fought this battle.

MCCLOSKEY — The friends of William W. McCloskey, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will take place at Butler County Memorial Park.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
