Joseph Shea

Joseph R. Shea, 88, of Butler passed away Sunday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 13, 1925, he was the son of the late James A. and Marie Mojolsky Shea.

He was the husband of the late Lois M. Moran Shea, who passed away on June 21, 1999.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served for 31 years.

After his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by Pullman Standard as a security guard.

He was a member of the VFW Post 243 in West Sunbury. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling to reunions for ships he previously served on and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are his four sons, Daniel (Lynn) Shea of Maryland, Michael (Jane) Shea of Virginia, Robert (Catherine) Shea of Gibsonia and Keith Shea of Ohio; his four daughters, Kimberly (Richard) Hempfling of Butler, Lori (Harold) Gilbert of New Freeport, Pa., Maureen (Randy) Stoneking of Spraggs, Pa., and Lisa (Adam) Luntz of Evans City; his 18 grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack Shea, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers and his sister.

SHEA — The friends of Joseph R. Shea, who passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Christopher At The Lake Roman Catholic Church, 232 N. Franklin St., Prospect. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher Parish.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
