Elizabeth J. Hartnett
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hartnett, 76, of Chicora passed away at 2:40 a.m. Friday at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights following a period of declining health.
Born in Washington Township on Feb. 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore “Sam” and Lisa Barone Muscatello.
Betty was married on July 14, 1962, to Robert J. Hartnett, who passed away Nov. 3, 2007.
She was a graduate of the former Concord Township High School in 1954. She earned a bachelor of science in health and physical education from Slippery State Teachers College, now a university, and a master of science in secondary education from West Virginia University at Morgantown.
She began a 33-year career with the Northern Butler County School District, now the Moniteau School District, retiring in 1993. While teaching, she was a member of the MEA, PSEA, and NEA educational associations. In retirement, she maintained membership with the organizations in retiree status.
An avid golfer, she was a member of the Highland Golf Course, the ladies' league at Lake Arthur CC and the Tuesday AM League at Highland.
Involved in bowling, she was a member of the Tuesday AM League (winter time) at Bruin Lanes and the Spices League at Sherwood Lanes.
Betty was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church at Chicora, and she enjoyed assisting the ladies of the church in various church functions.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Gerald and Bailey Hartnett of East Northport, N.Y., and Kevin and Gwen Hartnett of Allentown; four grandchildren, Matthew Robert, Jamison (Jamie), Tommy and Daniel Hartnett; one sister, Mary Muscatello Beatty of Panama City, Fla.; one brother and his wife, Carl G. and Beverly Muscatello of Ormand Beach, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bruno A. Muscatello.

Wayne Ave., Parker.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, officiating.
