Albert Kovach

Albert V. Kovach, 80, of Herman passed away Monday morning at VA Butler Healthcare in Butler.

Born on Jan. 4, 1934, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Stephen M. Kovach and Ludvika M. (Zahradnik) Kovach.

He retired from the Mine Safety Appliance Co. in Callery following 39 years. He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, the Slovak Catholic Sokol, the Slovak Sokol Society, the American Legion Post 778, the Roman Catholic Men's Club and the Herman Volunteer Fire Department.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Jean (Osche) Kovach, who he married on Aug. 28, 1965; his three daughters, Lisa (Jim) Jackman of Butler, Lydia McClelland of East Butler and Lynn Kovach of Petrolia; his six grandchildren, Nicolas Keith, Dalton Jackman, Halie Jackman, Colby McClelland, Arica McClelland, Kayci McClelland; and his great-grandson, Ryan Keith.

Also surviving are his brother, Domonic Kovach of Willingboro, N.J.; his four sisters, Margaret Sheppeck of Renfrew, Pauline Maillet of Butler, Agnes Terbovich of Butler and Theresa (Roy) Fowler of Pittsburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers and his sister.

Kovach — The friends of Albert V. Kovach, who passed away Monday morning, Feb. 3, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
