SRU indoor track program shines during PSAC meet

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s indoor track and field teams put together impressive performances at the PSAC Championships over the weekend at Bucknell University.

The Rock women claimed two individual titles and won the team championship as well. The Rock men finished third as a team, but broke two school records and hit four NCAA provisional marks.

On the women’s side, Kaitlyn Clark won the pole vault Saturday night while Janine Powis won the 800 meters Sunday.

Several Butler County products contributed to the team championship. Butler graduate Ava Bonetti was third in the shot put with a throw of 12.59 meters. Slippery Rock High School graduate Breana Northcott was fourth with a toss of 12.38 meters.

Butler graduates Katelyn Wetzel and Jasmine Bailey placed fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 200 meters.

SRU ended Shippensburg’s four-year reign as PSAC champion. The two schools have combined to win each of the last eight team titles.

On the men’s side, Jordan Pacheco won the pole vault Saturday and Hans Lubich claimed the hepathlon Sunday. Lubich earned an NCAA provisional 4,976 points to rank ninth in the nation among Divsion II athletes.

Seneca Valley graduate Hunter Williams broke his own school record in the 400 meters, running the event in 49.02 seconds for an NCAA provisional. He placed third in the 400, second in the 200 and anchored the 4x400 meter relay team to a school record time of 3:19.90.

Moniteau graduate Victor Santoyo placed fourth in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.
