Storm, snow on way

6 inches or more possible

A storm with the potential to bring up to a foot of snow is expected to hit Butler County this weekend.

Tom Kines, a meteorologist with AccuWeather in State College, said the storm should produce at least 6 inches of snow by Monday. He said there is a chance it could produce up to a foot of snow, but 6 inches is more likely.

“We feel pretty confident there will be 6,” Kines said this morning.

Kines said light snow is expected to begin around sunrise on Sunday and will continue throughout the day. He said that this snow is not expected to cause any problems.

However, the snow will become steadier and heavier between 3 and 8 p.m. The heaviest of the snow will be Sunday night and into Monday morning.

“I suspect most of the storm is done with by Monday morning,” Kines said.

The snow should stop about noon Monday.

The high temperatures should be in the mid to up per 20s on Sunday and in the lower 20s on Monday.

However, there will be somewhat of a warmup on Saturday. The high temperature Saturday is expected to be around 40 degrees.
