Marella Carrie Senn

Senn

Marella Carrie Senn, 94, who preferred to be known as “Detta,” passed away peacefully Wednesday in her sleep in Ft. Collins, Colo.

Detta had lived in Zelienople her entire life until 2010, when she went to Ft. Collins to be with her son.

Detta was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Zelienople to Emmett Milton Kennedy and Grace Leonberg.

She had one sibling, Jean Kennedy-Sloan, who is deceased, and was married to World War II veteran Howard Frank Senn until his passing in 1986.

She is survived by her two children, Howard “Bud” E. Senn of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Marla J. Billinger of Zelienople; her four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Zelienople High School and had stated many times, “those were the best times of my life.”

She was a devoted mother and housewife to her family and truly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Detta had enjoyed selling women's apparel for eight years at the Zelieann Shop on Main Street in Zelienople.

She was a lifelong attendee of Park United Presbyterian Church of Zelienople, where she was a devoted member of the choir, composer of introits/benedictions and interim director. She loved to play her trumpet while marching in The Resurrection Band, sing in a ladies' quartet called the “Troubadettes,” and spend many hours playing her piano and keyboard by ear, with no music in front of her. Detta could also play the ukulele and sing along with that.

In addition to her many musical talents, she frequently enjoyed gardening, watching television and sewing. She retained her quick sense of humor until the end, which was enjoyed by those who knew her and those who were new to her. She will be greatly missed by all!
