Betty J. Barbour Tilton, 83, passed away Thursday at her home in Zelienople.

Betty was born on Nov. 15, 1930, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Edna (Jacobe) and John K. Barbour.

She grew up in Beechview and was a 1948 graduate of South Hills High School. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1952, and worked many years as a home economics teacher.

Betty maintained a lifelong love of learning and was always keenly interested in health and nutrition.

Betty was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was married to her husband, Robert L. Tilton, for 48 years, and he preceded her in death in November 2004.

They lived much of their married life and raised their children in Wexford/Marshall Township, Pa. Betty and Robert were charter members of the Wexford Presbyterian Church, and Betty was an active church and community volunteer.

She was a worldwide traveler and enjoyed staying active, both physically and mentally, throughout her life.

Betty will be remembered as a devoted mother by her children, Keith (Kay) Tilton of Zelienople, Lisa (Gary) Treible of York, Pa., Gail (Michael) Peck of Columbus, Ga., and Amy (Gerard) ElCharar of Vienna, W.Va. She was dearly loved by her 10 grandchildren, and she will be missed by nieces, nephews and her surviving in-laws.

Tilton — The visitation for Betty J. Barbour Tilton, who passed away Thursday Jan. 16, 2014, will be at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, at 10 a.m. Saturday. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Private interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies to honor Betty and Robert, a World War II veteran.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sjogrens Syndrome Foundation, to the Calvin Presbyterian Church, Zelienople, or to the Wexford Presbyterian Church.Arrangements are by the A.
