HARRISBURG — Gov. Tom Corbett's administration could be ready to submit its proposal to the federal government to draw down billions of Medicaid expansion dollars to help uninsured working adults buy health insurance.

Administration spokesman Jay Pagni wouldn't say whether it'll submit the proposal today to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He would only say that the administration plans to take the next step.

Corbett, a Republican and Medicaid critic, is refusing to use the money to expand the five-decade old federal-state program, which he says is bloated and inefficient.

Rather, he wants to use the Medicaid expansion money to subsidize private health insurance for about 520,000 newly eligible Pennsylvania adults. But that will need the federal government's approval.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Mike Kelly, R-3rd, of Butler announced that he has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for re-election.In a statement about Kelly, Tom Donohue, president of the U.S. Chamber, said, “We believe that your re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives will help produce sustained economic growth, help create jobs and get our country back on track.”Kelly said, “I decided to run for Congress to stop the federal government from stifling the American spirit of entrepreneurship. I have been an ardent supporter of legislation that encourages, not stifles, economic growth, curtails the intrusiveness of abusive federal government agencies and reduces the national debt.”Kelly will run the Republican primary in May, and if he wins, he will be on the ballot for the general election in November.

DILLINER — Chevron is drawing criticism on social media for dropping off free pizza coupons at the homes of people who live near a Pennsylvania gas well that exploded and burned for days, leaving one worker missing and presumed dead.The fire broke out Feb. 11 at the well in Dunkard Township, near Bobtown, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. It burned for four days.A Chevron spokeswoman said the vouchers are a “token of appreciation” for neighbors' patience — and to support the local Bobtown Pizza shop that provided food for first-responders and workers on the site.From staff and wire reports

Two designers in the Butler office of Stantec have co-authored a chapter in a book about designing teaching laboratories.The chapter was written by Stantec engineer Jim Eyth and architect Alex Wing along with Cleveland-based Stantec colleague Michael Reagan.The book, published by the American Chemical Society, highlights projects, best practices and considerations for academic institutions doing a lab construction or renovation project.
