SRU splits pair at Mercyhurst
ERIE — It was a tough night for the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team.
Rock senior Maurice Lewis-Briggs scored 15 points and Antonio Butler added 10 points and four assists, but SRU fell to Mercyhurst University 56-52 Wednesday night.
SRU was out-rebounded 28-27 and committed 16 turnovers in the loss.
The Rock (17-8, 8-5) had defeated the Lakers (13-9, 9-3) 64-43 Jan. 18 at Morrow Field House.
Paul Bilbo led Mercyhirst with 12 points while Andy Hoying added 11.
SRU 70, Mercyhurst 63 (women) — Rebecca Olkosky sank six free throws in the final minute as The Rock (5-18, 2-11) snapped a five-game losing streak.
D’Asia Chambers’ steal and layup with 19 seconds left sealed the win after SRU went more than three minutes without a field goal. Chambers had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Jazmyne Frost 18 points.
Katie Fisher scored 21 points for Mercyhurst (6-16, 4-8).
