David F. Thompson

David F. Thompson, 75, of Butler passed away at 9:25 p.m. Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on April 26, 1938, in Allegheny County to the late Rev. Warren Floyd Thompson and Marie (Simons) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson worked as a mechanic for Wick Implement for 23 years. He also worked at Ritenour Lawn shop for two years and for Smardt Equipment for two years, retiring in 2001.

He attended the Nixon United Methodist Church.

Mr. Thompson drove stock cars and won championships at the Butler Speedway, the Mercer Speedway and Lernerville Speedway. He and his wife bowled in the Couples Compact Bowling League for 23 years. Mr. Thompson enjoyed stock car racing, bowling and especially loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Darlene L. (McCormick) Thompson, who he married on Dec. 14, 1956; his son, Ronald F. Thompson and his wife, Patricia, of Enon Valley, Pa.; his three daughters, Connie M. Sweeney and her husband, Paul, of Butler, Bonnie M. Sarver and her husband, Charles, of West Sunbury and Donna I. Musser and her husband, Timothy, of Apollo, Pa.; his seven grandchildren, Charles Sarver and his wife, Donna, Rhonda Thompson, Christina Thompson, Jill Sweeney, Laura Sweeney, Derrick Davidson and Kassandra Davidson; and his four great-grandchildren, Tessa Duffield, Mason Duffield, Marley Solo and Delaney Davidson.

His two brothers, Robert Thompson and his wife, Gloria Mae, of Valencia and Glenn Thompson of Connoquenessing; his three sisters, Mildred Coyne of Pittsburgh, Nancy Critchlow of Saxonburg and Elvajean Downing and her husband, Bob, of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary (Groom) Thompson; his brother, Warren Thompson Jr.; and his two sisters, Marie Brown and Wilma Tabisz.

THOMPSON — The friends of David F. Thompson, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce K. Merritt of the Nixon United Methodist Church officiating.
