Superintendent survey gets about 800 responses
BUTLER TWP — Butler School Board’s effort to hire a new superintendent has produced hundreds of responses from a community survey on the qualities the new leader should possess.
Along with discussing the responses, the board’s administrative search committee Monday night also confirmed the members of a community advisory committee.
The school board is looking to replace Superintendent Mike Strutt, who will retire at the end of June.
Nearly 800 people responded to the online survey. They checked off 10 top qualities they’d like to see in the next superintendent, among more than 25 choices.
The survey was available on the school district’s website until Monday.
The most popular qualities included knowledge of the K-12 curriculum and instruction, ability to develop and communicate a vision of quality education for the future, commitment to a “student first” philosophy in all decisions, management experience of district resources and knowledge of sound fiscal procedures, and knowledge of the Butler community and its diversity.
“The purpose of the survey was to see which qualities the community thought were qualities of the utmost importance,” said Al Vavro, board member and chairman of the search committee.
Those qualities, as well as other comments, will be used to help formulate questions during candidate interviews.
Community advisory committee members will get to interview the superintendent candidate.
