James William Harmon Sr., Prospect Borough Council president

James William Harmon Sr., 70, of Prospect passed away suddenly Monday evening at his home.

Born on July 15, 1943, in New Brighton, Beaver County, he was the son of the late William Virgil and Ethel Jane Peters Harmon.

Jim was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where he served three terms as a church elder, a past trustee of the church, and a past member of the church choir.

He was a member of the Prospect Borough Council, where he was the current borough council president.

Jim was a member of the Christopher Gist Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He was a member and current president of the Prospect Area Preservation Society.

Jim was a past president of the Prospect Boys and Girls Club.

He was retired from Applied Test Systems in Butler, where he was a machinist.

Jim enjoyed golfing and watching Pittsburgh Penguin hockey.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou (Maines) Harmon, who he married on Sept. 28, 1963; his children, James W. (Nancy) Harmon, Jr. of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Dawn Marie (James) Szymoniak, Jr. of Prospect; his grandchildren, Corey Harmon, Caleb Harmon, Cassie Harmon, Heather Szymoniak, Rachael Szymoniak, and Joanne O'Donnell, and his siblings, Larry (Sally) Harmon of Evans City and Trudy Harmon Frishkorn of Zelienople.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Derek Harmon.

HARMON — The visitation for James William Harmon. Sr., who passed away Monday Dec. 30, 2013, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, 115 Church St., Prospect, with the Rev. Dana Opp of the Portersville Presbyterian Church officiating.Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt.
