William Gillespie

William Vance Gillespie, 71, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Butler, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

He was born in Butler on May 30, 1942, a son of Robert V. and Phyllis O’Connor Gillespie.

He was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a retired civilian employee of the federal government at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Bill was a member of the St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church in San Antonio, the Men’s Club of the Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Spence Gillespie; his two children, William (Jennifer) Nowell of Manassas, Va., and Kimberly Farley of Stafford, Va.; his two sisters, Jeanne (LaVerne) Hinchberger of Butler and Gail Oesterling of Newton, N.C.; his seven grandchildren; his aunt; his uncle; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also missed by his pet dogs.

Gillespie — The funeral services for William Vance Gillespie, who died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, were Monday at the St. Jerome Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. They were followed by interment at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.If desired, memorials could made to an animal shelter of the donor's choice.The Geibel Funeral Home, Butler, submitted the local information.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
