Mary Barnes

Mary (Pohrer) Barnes, 92, of Zelienople passed away Nov. 21 at Passavant Retirement Community.

Born on May 8, 1921, in Bellevue, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Armella (Mertes) Pohrer.

Mary was a faithful member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church in Zelienople.

She managed the travel office for Lutheran Senior Life in Zelienople and also did volunteer secretarial work for the Lutheran Senior Life Foundation office.

She was a member of the Evans City Historical Society and, in her free time, enjoyed being an artist. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children, Gwendolyn Lutz and her husband, Kevin, of Zelienople and William Barnes and his wife, Frances, of New Jersey; her two brothers, Joseph J. Pohrer of St. Augustine, Fla., and Richard F. Pohrer of Harmony; her sister, Elizabeth Korczynski of Zelienople; her six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond V. Barnes, who she married on April 28, 1945, and who passed away on Jan. 20, 1999; her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Fraser and her husband, Alan; her sister, Agnes Knoth; and her two brothers-in-law, Richard Knoth and Karl Korczynski.

BARNES — A memorial Mass for Mary (Pohrer) Barnes, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, with Father Lawrence R. Smith as celebrant.The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Evans City.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her honor in support of the Passavant Benevolent Fund/LAS Foundation, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople.
