Penn State finally gets Big Ten win
STATE COLLEGE — D.J. Newbill scored 16 points, including 12 in the second half, to lead Penn State past Nebraska 58-54 Thursday night.
Penn State (10-10, 1-6 Big Ten) finally won its first conference game of the season after losing its first six. Nebraska (9-9, 1-5) couldn't sustain the momentum of its biggest win of the season, a 68-62 win over No. 17 Ohio State on Monday.
John Johnson scored 13 for the Nittany Lions, and Brandon Taylor and Tim Frazier each had 11.
Terran Petteway paced the Cornhuskers with 15, and Ray Gallegos added 10.
Nebraska pulled ahead at the 14:20 mark of the first half, led 29-22 at halftime and held the lead for the next 30:01.
